Frequently Asked Questions

To use Blabify, you need:

  • A Spotify account – Blabify uses Spotify for music playback
  • Spotify Premium – For full playback control (play, pause, skip, seek). Free Spotify users can join rooms but have limited control
  • An iOS device – iPhone or iPad running iOS 15.0 or later
  • Internet connection – Wi-Fi or cellular data for real-time synchronization

Creating a room is easy:

  1. Open Blabify and sign in with your Spotify account
  2. Tap the "Create Room" button
  3. Give your room a name (optional)
  4. Share the room code with friends

You'll become the host of the room, which gives you control over playback.

To join an existing room:

  1. Open Blabify and sign in with your Spotify account
  2. Tap "Join Room"
  3. Enter the room code shared by the host
  4. Tap "Join" and you're in!

Room codes are case-insensitive and typically 8 characters long.

If your music isn't syncing properly, try these steps:

  • Check your connection – Ensure you have a stable internet connection
  • Verify Spotify Premium – Full sync requires Spotify Premium
  • Open Spotify – Make sure Spotify is running in the background
  • Check device – Ensure Blabify is controlling the right Spotify device
  • Refresh – Leave and rejoin the room

Note: Our "soft sync" approach intentionally waits for track transitions to avoid jarring skips mid-song.

Spotify Premium is recommended but not strictly required:

  • With Premium: Full playback control – play, pause, skip, seek, and perfect synchronization
  • Without Premium: You can join rooms and participate in voice drops, but playback control is limited due to Spotify's API restrictions

For the best Blabify experience, we recommend Spotify Premium.

Yes! In fact, Spotify needs to be running for Blabify to control playback. Here's how it works:

  • Blabify sends commands to Spotify through Spotify's API
  • Spotify handles the actual music playback
  • You can have both apps running simultaneously

Tip: If you manually control Spotify while in a room, your playback might desync. Let the host control playback for the best experience.

Voice Drops let you send voice messages to everyone in the room:

  1. Record – Tap and hold the microphone button to record your message
  2. Release – Let go of the button when you're done recording
  3. Queue – Your message is sent to the server and added to the queue
  4. Playback – Messages play one at a time. The music automatically ducks (lowers volume) so everyone can hear clearly

Multiple people can record at the same time—all messages play in order without overlap!

If your voice drops aren't being received:

  • Check microphone permission – Go to Settings → Blabify and ensure microphone access is enabled
  • Record long enough – Very short recordings (under 300ms) may be discarded
  • Check your connection – Voice requires a stable internet connection to upload
  • Check queue status – Your message may be queued behind others—wait for it to play
  • Try rejoining – Leave and rejoin the room to re-establish the connection

Only briefly, for delivery purposes.

Here's how voice messages work:

  • Temporary Queue: When you send a voice drop, it's briefly held in a queue on our server
  • Immediate Deletion: As soon as your message plays to room participants, it's permanently deleted
  • Not Archived: We never save, archive, or retain voice recordings
  • Encrypted: All voice data is encrypted during transmission (TLS/SSL)

We only log metadata (who spoke, duration) for debugging purposes—never the actual audio.

The collaborative queue lets everyone contribute songs:

  • Add songs – Search for any song on Spotify and tap to add it to the queue
  • View queue – See what's coming up and who added each song
  • Host controls – The room host can reorder, remove, or skip songs
  • Now playing – The current song plays from the queue, and everyone stays in sync

Yes! You can add any song from Spotify's catalog to the room queue, including songs from your personal playlists. Just search for the song and add it.

Note: All participants need access to the song on Spotify for it to play for everyone. This is typically not an issue unless a song is region-restricted.

To revoke Blabify's access to your Spotify account:

  1. Go to spotify.com/account
  2. Log in to your Spotify account
  3. Click "Apps" in the left sidebar
  4. Find "Blabify" in the list
  5. Click "Remove Access"

After removing access, you'll need to re-authorize Blabify if you want to use it again.

We collect minimal data to provide the service:

  • From Spotify: Display name, profile image, and playback state
  • Room data: Temporary data about rooms and queues (deleted when room ends)
  • Technical data: Device type, app version, crash reports

We do not collect: Your location, contacts, photos, Spotify listening history, or payment information.

Read our full Privacy Policy for complete details.

To delete your data:

  1. Disconnect your Spotify account (see above)
  2. Email us at support@blabify.app requesting data deletion
  3. We will delete all your data within 30 days and confirm via email

Room data is automatically deleted when rooms end, so there's usually very little data to delete.

If Blabify is crashing:

  1. Update the app – Make sure you have the latest version from the App Store
  2. Restart the app – Force close and reopen Blabify
  3. Restart your device – Sometimes a fresh start helps
  4. Check iOS version – Ensure you're running iOS 15.0 or later
  5. Reinstall – Delete and reinstall the app

If the problem persists, please contact us with details about when the crash occurs.

Some latency is normal due to network conditions. To minimize it:

  • Use Wi-Fi – Faster and more stable than cellular
  • Check your connection – Run a speed test to ensure good connectivity
  • Close other apps – Reduce network and CPU competition
  • Stay in sync – The host's playback is the source of truth; avoid manual Spotify controls

Our sync algorithm aims for sub-second accuracy, but network conditions vary.
